Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our individual, group, and remote fieldwork supervision services designed for BCBA candidates.
What types of supervision do you offer?
North Shores offers both Fieldwork Supervision and Concentrated Fieldwork Supervision, with individual and small-group supervision options available. We also offer services as Consulting Supervisors for new BCBAs wanting to supervise those obtaining fieldwork hours. All services are provided remotely, offering flexible access to quality supervision for candidates across locations.
Supervisees need to have reliable access to technology, including a computer with internet access, webcam, microphone, and a device capable of video recording when needed.
Do I need to be enrolled in a BCBA program before starting supervision?
You must meet the applicable BACB requirements to begin accruing qualifying fieldwork. Your coursework and certification pathway will be reviewed before supervision begins.
Do I need a job before beginning supervision?
Not necessarily. However, you must have access to meaningful behavior-analytic activities that can qualify as fieldwork. We will discuss your current employment or fieldwork opportunities during the initial consultation.
Can I switch between individual and group sessions?
We offer flexible supervision plans that allow for a mix of individual and group hours, provided the group supervision does not exceed the 50% threshold required by the BACB.
How many fieldwork hours can I accrue each month?
The number of hours you can accrue depends on your fieldwork setting, available activities, schedule, and applicable BACB requirements. Supervision does not guarantee a specific number of fieldwork hours. It is recommended that all candidates become familiar with the most up to date requirements of the BCBA Handbook prior to receiving supervision.
What activities count toward fieldwork?
Qualifying activities may include assessment, data analysis, program development, treatment planning, caregiver or staff training, behavior-change procedures, literature review, and other behavior-analytic activities.
Your supervisor will determine whether an activity qualifies based on current BACB requirements and your training objectives.
Does North Shores provide fieldwork placements?
North Shores provides supervision. Supervisees are responsible for securing an appropriate fieldwork setting and ensuring they have access to qualifying activities unless otherwise arranged.
What happens before I officially begin supervision?
You'll complete a Supervisee Interest Form and we'll reach out to set up an initial consultation. During this process, we'll discuss your education, coursework, fieldwork setting, availability, professional goals, and supervision needs.
If North Shores is a good fit, we'll review the supervision contract agreement, establish your supervision plan, and send your contract to be signed.
